Fresh Fish & More

About Us

The company was started in 1960 by Vincent Sullivan as predominantly a Fishmongers and Fruit & Vegetable shop in Abergavenny - one of six such shops in a town of 8000 people serving local family households.

In those days eating out was virtually unheard of as was refrigeration, food safety ... food poisoning .... and food allergies!! - a public house was for drinking in and it was difficult even to find a bag of crisps to buy in many pubs.

Vin died suddenly in 1964 and his widow Rita and son John were thrust into the business, literally overnight.

The shop developed over the the years expanding the range of products sold to include delicatessen, poultry and fine foods answering the growing demand for speciality products by the burgeoning restaurant market.

the shop became a focal point in both the local region and further afield for its high quality produce & service and has been written about by dozens of food writers and featured in many publications and TV programmes including the 'Sunday Times Magazine' 'Best of British' and 'The Food Show'

The business expanded to such an extent that the restaurant supply side of the business overgrew the shop premises and moved first to Triley Mill and later, in 1992, to a purpose built plant in Blaenavon.

due to escalating rent and rates the shop in Abergavenny was reluctantly closed in 2005, and plans were laid to develop and expand the warehouse in Blaenavon, these plans including a specialist retail unit stocking fresh and frozen fish, poultry, game, charcuterie and dry goods and much more, which opened on the 16th October 2007.
